What is Taipei Personality?

Taipei Personality is a newsletter from me, Dan Spinelli, a U.S. graduate student living in Taipei for the 2023-24 academic year. Expect stories about Taiwanese culture, Chinese policy, and the experience of waking up at 4 a.m. to watch Philadelphia Eagles games.

Who I am

After four years as a journalist at Mother Jones, I entered graduate school at Georgetown University to study the Chinese government's policies in its borderlands, particularly Xinjiang, and how this policy affects the ethnic minorities of China. Now I'm in Taipei to study Mandarin Chinese at the International Chinese Language Program (ICLP).
